Donor Day South

On 16th October 2008 The Transplant Trust hosted its annual Donor Day South Event at a sponsored race day at Brighton Racecourse. The event raised £669.52, as well as promoting the benefits of organ donation and emphasising the need to register as organ donors to help provide a life saver for the growing number of people waiting for a transplant.

The Transplant Trust Chairman, John Wallwork, and 9 year old Seb Thomas, of Telscombe Cliffs, Sussex, presented the trophy to the winner of the Transplants in Mind Handicap Stakes. Seb’s father was an organ donor and Seb has done a number of interviews with the press explaining why it is so important for people to register with the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Further speakers at the event included Liz Hosford, a Kidney recipient and a number of Donor Families. Also in attendance was the Mayor of Brighton, who kindly offered to host a similar event at the Mayor’s Parlour in Brighton in the New Year.

The day also saw the exciting launch of our fantastic Transplant Star competition, further details can be found on our home page.

John Wallwork, said: “The competition is all about raising awareness and funds which will drive further research to help the thousands of people awaiting transplants, and their carers. It will also encourage debate about the key issue behind transplantation. Remember that you are here today betting on horses, but people waiting for a transplant are betting on life."

The Transplant Trust would like to say a special thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day a success. We hope you found the days as enjoyable as we did and hope to see you all at the next event.
